Being a volunteer

volunteer with mother and babyAt the heart of Home-Start is the belief that parents play the key role in giving their children the best start in life and that other parents have the experience and understanding to support those families who need help.

Home-Start Gosport & Fareham is highly regarded by referrers and Home-Start UK who recently awarded the scheme 91% in a recent (2016) quality assurance review.

We provide opportunities for volunteers to develop new skills, gain a qualification, meet new people, feel valued and have fun. We are committed to supporting our volunteers to ensure they get the most from their experience at Home-Start Gosport & Fareham.

Who are Home-Start volunteers?

Our volunteers are caring and committed individuals who offer their time freely to local families for 2/3 hours a week.

They are usually parents/grandparents themselves and bring with them life experience, skills and a knowledge of the resources in the local area.

They are approachable and friendly and can be trusted by parents to listen without judgment and to respect the needs of individual families.

All volunteers

  • Undertake a 35 hour course of preparation which is held one day a week for a 7 week period.

  • Have access to further training and social events throughout the year.
